The Global Cleantech Innovation Index

The Global Cleantech Innovation Index (GCII), a biennial index and report, was first created in 2012 to investigate the question: Which countries currently have the greatest potential to produce entrepreneurial cleantech start-up companies and which will commercialize clean technology innovations over the next 10 years?

The Global Cleantech Innovation Index explores which countries currently have the greatest potential to produce entrepreneurial cleantech start-ups that will commercialize clean technology innovations over the next 10 years. The most recent Index and accompanying report were released in 2014, two years after the original Index. Both were published in partnership with WWF.

This index remains the only study—that we know of—seeking to look at why entrepreneurial companies developing sustainable innovations seem to spring up in certain geographies, and which economic, social and environmental conditions cultivate hotbeds for such innovation.
