Xinyu City-based LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK) said today it has signed an 11-year multicrystaline wafer processing deal for solar-grade silicon provided by Thalheim, Germany's Q-Cells (FRA: QCE).
Under the terms of the agreement, LDK Solar said it will process a minimum of 20,000 metric tons of upgraded metallurgical grade solar-grade silicon from 2008 to 2018 (see GT Solar to supply polysilicon reactors to LDK).
There is an option to extend that agreement to process an additional 21,000 metric tons during the same period of time.
The deal is linked to an earlier 10-year Memorandum of Understanding between the two companies in which LDK Solar supplies Q-Cells with as much as 5 gigawatts of multicrystaline solar wafers (see LDK to supply 6GW of solar wafers to Q-Cells).
Separately, Trina Solar (NYSE:TSL) subsidiary Changzhou Trina Solar Energy said today it has signed a two-year agreement to supply Belgium-based Invitus NV with high-quality modules (see Trina Solar drops plans for polysilicon plant).
The agreement calls for China's Trina Solar Energy to supply Invictus with 20 megawatts in 2009 and 30 MW in 2010 with an option to purchase additional 10 MW for each year.
Trina Solar also manufactures monocrystalline and multicrystalline ingots, wafers and cells. Trina Solar said it has an estimated production goal of 2009 of 450 MW.
