India targets 60 "solar cities," with a catch

India is aiming to enable selected existing local urban governments to make slightly greater use of solar energy over the next five years.

While none of the 60 cities in the the Union government's new plan, just announced, is intended to be fully solar powered, the cities are to share in increased funding for solar energy.

They're also to adopt energy efficiency measures, with an overall goal to reduce the projected demand for conventional energy by some 10 percent.
