It is about time we stop calling grapes flown 12,000 miles from southern Chile, "Organic" or "Healthy". The amount of energy this wastes is enormous and must stop. Food should and or must be grown locally, regionally at worst. One might imagine replacing the local Walmart with an indoor high intensity urban farm. Heat adsorbing water pipes could snake underneath blacktop parking lots and connect to a geothermal heat pump system to provide year round heat. Hydroponics and aquaculture could be utilized to increase efficiency and output. This would provide thousands of green collar jobs while saving energy at the same time.
