Overview

After celebrating a highly memorable 10th anniversary of Cleantech Forum Europe in Stockholm in 2014, we are delighted to return to Sweden’s capital and major European startup hub for our 15th edition – mark your calendars for May 21-23, 2019!

This annual gathering of the European innovation community offers a wide-ranging, three-day program along with exclusive opportunities to network, learn, and get deals done. Since 2002, Cleantech Group has brought together clean technology’s most influential leaders – corporate executives, startup and growth company CEOs, investors, government agencies, and other players – from across all areas of resource innovation, from the major industrial verticals, and from across the globe.

What to Expect

Our Cleantech Forums give you a glimpse of the future, get you out of your everyday silos, provide a different perspective, and help you find innovations of relevance to you that are in adjacent or altogether different industrial and technology areas. We convene the game-changers from multiple sectors all in one place for three days, from 25+ countries, and from over 100 cities worldwide. Our 17-year history of Cleantech Forums speaks to the importance of our events in getting deals done (or started), and the feedback we receive from attendees each year highlights the unique opportunities found at our Forums.

Agenda

For more than 15 years, Cleantech Group has been charting the future of industries, championing how sustainable innovation companies will shape such futures, and catalyzing business opportunities at every turn.

Since 2002 in San Francisco and since 2005 in Europe, Cleantech Forums have showcased the trends to watch out for and the innovation and the entrepreneurs that illustrate them. We have connected countless international partnerships and cross-border investment deals along the way.

Innovation on show at these Forums is all-pervasive, and looks well beyond enabling technology: business models, who works with whom, the latest on the finance and investment scene, as well as the brightest rising startups and growth-stage entrepreneurial companies.

What to expect from the 2019 Forum’s program?

Attendees should expect Cleantech Forum Europe to provide what it always does, regardless of each year’s location, with some local and regional color. Join us for:

  • An annual check-in on the future of transitioning our 21st century global industrialized B2B activities as they become more digitized, de-carbonized, and resource-efficient.
  • The latest on the finance and investment scene – the trends, the new players, the new models and latest thinking.
  • Showcasing of some of the brightest rising startup and growth-stage entrepreneurial companies, both locally and from across Europe and beyond:
    • This will begin with our afternoon “pre-event” on Tuesday 21 May with the Nordic Cleantech Open Finals, hosted by our Forum partner Cleantech Scandinavia. Ten finalists will be featured, with the winner announced during the official opening evening session of the Forum.
    • Over the following two days, we will feature more than 40 other innovation companies in the program, with many more to meet.
  • Focused break-out sessions to look at the latest in long-running trends and topics, as well as sessions to highlight emergent trends and topics to keep an eye on. Examples of subjects we are working on for May 2019 to include:
    • The latest on batteries – we will look both through the lens of Northvolt as a manufacturer of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, and at alternatives to such (e.g. solid state, ultracapacitors, etc.)
    • The optimization of the future energy systems, including a look at DER “marketplaces” and security (both at the grid and device level)
    • Sustainable chemistry and materials
    • Water efficiency
    • The circular economy – with an emphasis on clothing likely
    • Re-imagining hydrogen in the future European economy
    • Our Ag & Food content will likely include a look at food distribution and digitized delivery systems, and/or a look at plant science innovation (both areas our Ag & Food analyst has been studying of late)
    • Trucking – the transportation sector is not all about EVs and passenger cars!
    • A focus on heat and heating, a critical part of the 2030 challenge we face
    • Key enablers of sustainable industries of the future – automation, intelligence, and predictive maintenance
    • What’s on the horizon – e.g. quantum computing, augmented construction, next-gen solar materials, next-gen embedded connectivity in the energy system

As we work toward releasing the full program, please nominate speakers who will be relevant to our plans above or speakers who bring other subjects/perspectives you believe are of interest to our audience. Deadline: 31 March 2019

Pending release of the full program, the 2018 agenda from our 14th Cleantech Forum Europe provides newcomers with a good insight to how our programs flow, and how we provide a lot of diversity in topics and formats – not just one long company pitch session.

How to Get to Stockholm / The Venue

Air Travel

There are many daily direct flights to Stockholm from major cities across the world.

Do note that there are at least 3 airports that might be described by airlines (especially Ryanair) as Stockholm Airport. Arlanda is the main airport, and the one most travelers will likely use. Bromma, Skavsta and Västerås are the others in the Stockholm region.

From the airport to the venue or Hilton Stockholm Slussen

When you arrive at the Stockholm Arlanda Airport, take the Arlanda Express train to Stockholm Central Station.

The Arlanda Express is the fastest (20 minutes) and our recommended option for either single travelers or in traffic rush hours. It costs SEK 295 one way and SEK 570 for a round trip (approximately €28-30 or € 55-57). You can then catch a taxi at the Stockholm Central Station, and in 5-10 minutes you will be at the Hilton Stockholm Slussen Hotel or at the venue, Münchenbryggeriet.

A fixed price taxi from the airport would likely cost about twice as much (between SEK 450-500 one way), so it could be a good option if you are sharing. Do note that prices charged by taxis in Stockholm are NOT regulated and so prices charged per km can vary a lot. We would advise only getting in a taxi where you know the fixed price to/from airport or, in the city, whose highest unit price is between, say SEK 290 – 390. You can see this on a very visible yellow label, usually on the rear door window, before entering the vehicle (see here for photo and more information).

Uber does operate in Stockholm, but do not expect significant price differences, as all ride-hailing cars are taxi-registered cars.

By bus to the venue and Hilton

You can also take the Flygbussarna bus shuttle from the airport to Stockholm City Terminal. Change to the red subway line towards Norsborg or Fruängen. Get off at Mariatorget. Take the Torkel Knutssonsgatan and Polishuset exit. As you exit the subway station, make a right down Torkel Knutssonsgatan and follow the street about 400 meters to the Brewery Conference Centre, located at Torkel Knutssonsgatan 2 on your left-hand side.
