Recent Deals – 9 August 2019

Agriculture & Food:
  Inari, a developer of genetic engineering tools for the agricultural sector, raised $89 million in growth equity. Investors included Flagship Pioneering, Investment Corporation of Dubai, EDBI and Acre Venture Partners. The new round of capital will be used to further the company’s computational and genomic tools, as well as accelerate the commercialization and introduction of its corn and soybean seeds to the US market. Within the next two years, Inari plans to expand into other crops.
Enabling Technologies:
Attabotics, a provider of 3D robotic goods-to-person storage, retrieval and real-time order fulfillment, raised $25 million in Series B funding. Participants in the round were Coatue Management, Comcast Ventures, Honeywell Ventures, Forerunner Ventures and Werklund Ventures. This funding will be used for new hires, scaling manufacturing operations and developing new technologies.
Energy & Power:
Sierra Energy, a developer of FastOx waste gasification technology, raised a $33 million Series A round. Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Cox Enterprises, BNP Paribas, Twynam Agricultural Group, Formica Ventures and The March Fund invested in the round. The fresh capital will be used to further develop and commercialize its FastOx® gasification technology, which converts virtually any waste into clean, renewable energy and fuels without burning.
Materials & Chemicals:
Gush, a producer of sustainable paints and advanced building materials, raised $2.2 million in seed funding from City Developments Limited. This funding will be used for research and development of new advanced building materials and expansion into other markets beyond buildings and construction.
Transportation & Logistics:
Recogni, a developer of a real-time object recognition system for autonomous vehicles, raised $25 million in Series A funding. GreatPoint Ventures led the round, with participation from Toyota AI Ventures, BMW i Ventures, Faurecia Ventures, DNS Capital and FLUXUNIT. This funding will be used to deliver an inferencing system to enable sensor fusion of visual and depth sensor data and grow the engineering team.
