Report Launch @COP23 Global Cleantech Innovation Programme Country Innovation Profiles 2017
Report Launch @ COP23 Bonn: The Global Cleantech Innovation Index 2017 – Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) Country Innovation Profiles
As part of our Global Cleantech Innovation Index programme this year, Cleantech Group took a closer look at 8 countries that are participating in the Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP). The programme, an initiative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), is conducted in Armenia, India, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey. The GCIP aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, and to catalyse investment to support and accelerate start-up entrepreneurs towards the development and commercialization of cleantech solutions to protect our global commons.
The Global Cleantech Innovation Index 2017 – Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) Country Innovation Profiles draws on a wide range of factors and sources, and seeks to answer the question: which countries currently have the greatest potential to produce entrepreneurial cleantech start-up companies that will commercialize clean technology innovations over the next 10 years?
It is a pioneering initiative to explore why entrepreneurial companies developing sustainable solutions emerge in certain geographies, and which economic, social and environmental conditions cultivate hotbeds for such innovation. It investigates the results of policies on producing cleantech entrepreneurs, and is expected to serve as a valuable policy tool to stimulate national action in supporting the commercialization of cleantech solutions.
At the report launch event hosted by WWF, cleantech innovation experts from GEF, UNFCCC, UNIDO and representatives from Mission Innovation, Cleantech Open, the Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea, and the Carbon Trust, discussed the transformative potential of cleantech solutions to meet the climate change mitigation goals of the Paris Agreement, and the enabling factors that support the success of cleantech start-ups as businesses.
