Suncor is seeking technologies that directly generate hydrogen from solar energy without electrolysis, including but not limited to photoelectrochemical cells. Promising technologies that have been laboratory scale tested and are progressing towards a pilot demonstration are of interest.

Suncor is also interested in advances in solar PV technology which could substantially lower overall system costs and improve land footprint, energy yield, and reliability, including:

  • improvements to solar power conversion efficiency
  • lower manufacturing complexity and cost
  • reduced toxicity
  • methods or techniques to deploy in novel areas, challenging environmental conditions or wide temperature ranges
  • reduced material use
