Overview

After our successful inaugural Cleantech Forum Asia last November, we are excited to be returning to Singapore with our 2nd annual Cleantech Forum Asia on 8-9 October 2019.

This Forum’s uniqueness is as a meeting point between our local, regional (ASEAN region and Asia Pacific more broadly), and global networks of entrepreneurial companies, investors and corporations, concerned with the future of energy, power, mobility, waste and more.

Why Asia?

Asia is where most of the world’s population resides, with the fastest rates of urbanization, where the majority of the world’s heavy industries are located, and where the majority of the world’s products are manufactured. However, while Asia is fast-growing, it is not very resource-efficient.

Asia is hungry for innovation and is investing in cleantech solutions that can solve Asian environmental challenges and provide global competitive industrial advantage.

Join the Agenda

Are you a young company at start-up or scale-up stage with a relevant solution to the ASEAN region and Asia Pacific more broadly? APPLY HERE to present as part of the international Innovation Company Showcase. We will accept companies on a rolling basis (every 3 weeks until all spots are filled), so early applications will be at an advantage. Deadlines: 28 JUNE, 19 JULY, 9 & 30 AUGUST 2019

If you are not a start-up but are interested in speaking please fill out the nomination form. Deadline 31 AUGUST 2019:

What to Expect

The aims of Cleantech Forum Asia are to convene the only truly international conference focused exclusively on cleantech innovation in Asia, and provide cleantech stakeholders across the globe an annual opportunity in Asia to exchange viewpoints, and to learn, meet and do deals.

The Forum will also showcase leading innovations relevant to Southeast Asia and APAC more generally, and help develop stronger cleantech innovation ecosystems in the region.

This will be a unique opportunity to foster international collaboration for the APAC, European and North American innovation players.

Who Attends

Check out last year’s registration list to see who attended the inaugural Cleantech Forum Asia.

We’ve listed some of the main participants of Cleantech Forum Asia, and why they attend:

  • You are an Asia-based investor and/or an Asian corporation, looking to find and connect with some of the best of global innovation.
  • You are a financial or corporate investor from outside the region, looking to find co-investors, strategic partners for your portfolio companies, LPs for your fund, etc.
  • You are a young company at start-up or scale-up stage with a relevant solution to this region. For 48 hours, you will have the chance to meet a wide range of investors and corporations not normally all together in one place.

  • You are looking to get up-to-date information on innovation trends and players in Asia for strategic planning purposes.
  • You like high energy, positively-minded events for people who want to get things done, making good by doing good.

We encourage you to give it a try!

This Forum will be structured to have some plenary sessions, but the majority of time will be spent in breakouts and parallel tracks to allow a number of different themes to be covered, and to give those most interested in those themes a chance to meet each other in more intimate, conversational-style formats and group sizes. And generous time is allocated to networking throughout the entire event.

Throughout the Forum, we will run innovation showcases – some standalone, some part of thematic afternoons. In total, the Forum will provide opportunities for more than 30 innovative companies to present themselves to our delegates – a mix of local, regional and global entrepreneurial companies. See our growing list of participating innovation companies. In addition, the 2019 APAC 25 will be released before the 2019 Forum and some of the companies will be with us in October.

  • Welcome to Singapore: Plans for Net Zero

We will begin with some welcome words and an introduction to Singapore’s plans, policies and strategies in pursuit of a “net zero” world.

  • The APAC 25: Leading Sustainable Innovation Companies in the Asia Pacific Region

Cleantech Group will unveil the second edition of the APAC 25, a sister list of its Global Cleantech 100 program. Twenty-five private and independent companies will be on the list, representing leading sustainable innovation companies from across the region and across the different industrial spheres. In addition to the unveiling, our delegates will have a chance to meet and hear from a few of the companies who are present.

The APAC 25 program has been made possible by the kind support of Enterprise Singapore.

  • The Future is Asian: In Pursuit of Net Zero

Cleantech Group and invited guest speakers will provide some viewpoints on key innovation and investment trends to watch out for, regionally and globally, and what the global pursuit of net zero by 2050 means in an Asian context.

Where are we today? What will drive this region towards such goals? What and who is needed?

  • Networking Break
  • Innovation Showcase 1: Meet Innovation Companies Looking for Capital & Partners

In June, Cleantech Group opened a global innovation call for companies – from the APAC region, but also from all over the world – to apply for the opportunity to present their company, and why they think they have a solution of interest to Southeast Asia and beyond. Since the start of July, we have started offering places to the most suitable applicants, so if you don’t wish to miss out, please apply today as we expect to be full by early August.

Once the innovation call is complete, we will allocate companies to particular showcases and sessions. In the meantime, you can find the running list of attending innovation companies here. We expect to be able to feature 30+ companies across the Forum’s program.

  • Innovation Showcase 2: Meet Innovation Companies Looking for Capital & Partners

  • The Energy, Power and Transportation Track

In August, we will publish the fully-scheduled program. For the blocks of the Energy, Power and Transportation track, we are currently working on providing content against the following session topics:

    • Hydrogen in Asia: After successful sessions at our Forums in both San Francisco and Europe, we wish to gain insights on the future of hydrogen in the Asian region by looking at the innovation across the value chain (generation, infrastructure, storage, power generation, industry, and transport).
    • Sustainable Buildings: We will look at the intersect of future technologies with the needs of different real estate owners.
    • Batteries and Microgrids: We looked at these subjects at last year’s Forum, and this year, we will provide some updates and some new companies to feature.
    • The Transportation Transition: What transportation might look like in 30 years seems almost easier to guess than what it will be in 10 years. We will provide some viewpoints on how transportation in this region may evolve over the coming years and why, what roles for electric, diesel, hybrid, LNG, hydrogen, etc., and what roles for land-based vs urban air mobility.
  • The Resources & Environment Track

In August, we will publish the fully-scheduled program. For the blocks of the Resources & Environment track, we are currently working on providing content in 3 areas as follows:

    • The Future of Waste in Asia: One block will help provide insights on the waste challenges of the region and will showcase companies seeking to address some of those. There is likely to be a particular focus on plastic, e-waste and food waste.
    • The Future of Water in Asia: Another time block will be devoted to providing insights on the water challenges and issues from across the region (and how they differ), and to showcasing some solution providers. Expect to hear from some industrials to gain some insights into a range of nearby markets.
    • The Future of Food in Asia: A third time block will be devoted to food subjects and the not insignificant challenge of the 2020s of growing the food supply while reducing carbon emissions. Expect insights on subjects such as the future of plant-based food, alternative proteins and more.

  • How To Localize Innovations for an Asian Context

A key premise of this Forum is that there is opportunity for Asian corporations and partners to work with foreign solution providers to address key sustainability challenges in the region. This Forum is motivated to bring the two together and to catalyze such opportunity. For that to happen and for it to work, there is much for both sides to learn about why such technology and their business models need to be localized and cannot be a straight export.

This educational session is designed to help foreign technology companies gain insights into how foreign technology is viewed by Asia-based corporations, and indeed, how they think, act and contract. The session will be full of case studies of successes and failures as part of the learning!

Explore Singapore

Arriving early to Cleantech Forum Asia, or extending your trip after the event? Here’s a brief guide to some activities and places to explore in the Lion City.

Outdoor Activities

Gardens by the Bay: Explore these waterfront gardens on reclaimed land, including the ‘Supertrees’ that inspired our event artwork for the Forum! These tree-shaped vertical gardens are between 9-16 storeys tall. Walk on the suspended walkway between two Supertrees, and in the evening, catch the sky show of choreographed lights and sounds at the Garden Rhapsody amidst the Supertrees.

And don’t miss out on the Cloud Forest, which features a 35-meter tall mountain and the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

Museums & Entertainment

ArtScience Museum: Located within the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum is an architectural must-see (along with the Marina Bay Sands Resort itself, of course!). Explore the exhibits on the intersection of art and science

Marina Bay Sands SkyPark: The iconic three-towered building with one of the largest cantilevers on top is impossible to miss across the Singapore skyline. Take a trip up to the SkyPark and enjoy the views from the Observation Deck or even take a swim in the infinity pool, 57 levels up! Don’t forget to book your tickets in advance.

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay: Known as the “Durian” because of its shape similar to that of the fruit, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, is host to an incredible range of world-class performances and events, across the genres of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and more. Check out the Esplanade’s website to see what’s on during your time in Singapore.

Dining

Singapore is a foodie’s heaven, with a wide mix of choices and cuisines. Our venue hotel is located next to the Newton Food Centre, one of the most famous hawker centres in Singapore, which was also featured in the movie, Crazy Rich Asians. The late-night market also boasts a couple vendors who have the world’s cheapest Michelin-starred food. Check out a local guide here.
