strategic engagement & impact

Cleantech Group has worked with Demeter since its inception, going back to the 2000’s, supporting the team with a constant flow of insights into sectors and sub-sectors, as well as investment trends. Through the Cleantech Forum event series, Cleantech Group has helped Demeter and its portfolio companies expand their reach and international connectivity.

Demeter has been an important strategic partner for all four of our Cleantech Forum Europe events held in France and is a leading participant in the Cleantech for Europe and Cleantech for France programs.

Background

Emerald is a venture capital company that invests in sustainable industrial innovation. The company was founded in 2000 as the venture capital (VC) arm of Sustainable Asset Management (SAM), creator of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and has a presence in Europe, Asia, and North America. Emerald began engaging from Cleantech Group’s beginnings, participating in Cleantech Forums and taking advantage of data and insights from the outset. At the time, Emerald was one of the first pureplay cleantech VC funds.

strategic engagement & impact

Understanding various cleantech subsectors has been key for Emerald. Their own team’s technical expertise now complements much of the market intelligence, and building connections has become increasingly important. Along with finding and meeting co-investors, they are spreading thought leadership and advancing cleantech sectors.

Participating in Cleantech Forums and becoming a global Forum sponsor has helped communicate Emerald’s view of how the cleantech ecosystem is evolving, along with the development of specific sectors, all from the perspective of a top-tier cleantech investor.

In addition to making investments, “Emerald Sprints” fosters collaboration between Emerald’s limited partners and start-ups in Emerald’s universe. Cleantech Group has supported such Sprints by contributing intelligence on specific markets and technologies.
