Cleantech Group Inducts Companies Into the Hall of Fame

Skeleton Technologies and Sunfire Honoured After Being a Member of the Global Cleantech 100 for 7 Consecutive Years

Brussels, BE – 9 November 2022 — Cleantech Group just announced the 2022 companies that made the Global Cleantech 100 Hall of Fame.  These celebrated winners, Skeleton Technologies and Sunfire, were recognized at an Awards Banquet at the Cleantech Forum Europe today.

The Hall of Fame is reserved for companies whose sustained excellence results in appearing on the list an impressive seven times.  While Hall of Fame companies can no longer qualify for future Global Cleantech 100s, these two companies join 12 others who have achieved this lofty goal.

Selected from over ten thousand nominated innovators, the Global Cleantech 100 represent the most innovative and promising companies that can take us from commitments to actions in our global efforts to reach net-zero.  The annual list contains the private, independent and for-profit companies best positioned to drive the transformation the world needs now.

“The Global Cleantech 100 Hall of Fame represents the cream of the crop,” said Richard Youngman, CEO of Cleantech Group.  “Both Skeleton Technologies and Sunfire have consistently exceeded their commitments to innovation in bringing us closer to our net-zero goal.”

Skeleton Technologies is a manufacturer of graphene-based ultracapacitor energy storage solutions.  Based on patented Curved Graphene, the company is able to significantly increase the energy density of their supercapacitors and SuperBattery, while also solving the stability and scalability issues of solid-state battery technologies.  Skeleton turns their material-based advantage into high-performance energy storage to accelerate electrification in the transportation, grid, industry, and automotive sectors.

Sunfire produces industrial electrolyzers based on alkaline and solid oxide (SOEC) technologies.  With its electrolysis solutions, Sunfire is addressing a key challenge of today’s energy system:  Providing renewable hydrogen and Syngas as climate-neutral substitutes for fossil energy.  Sunfire’s electrolysis technology enables the transformation of carbon-intensive industries that are currently dependent on fossil-based oil, gas, or coal.

This year’s list included entries from 94 countries. The sectors covered included:

  • Agriculture & Food
  • Enabling Technologies
  • Energy & Power
  • Materials & Chemicals
  • Resources & Environment
  • Transportation & Logistics

The Global Cleantech 100 list combines Cleantech Group’s research data with qualitative judgements from nominations and insight from a global, 85-member expert panel of leading investors and executives from corporations and industrials active in technology and innovation scouting.
